During teacher workshops in August, staff participated in a presentation by Stearns Co Attorney Janelle Kendall. She taught us about the epidemic in Central MN of sex trafficking. Staff were shocked by what was presented and want to do more to prevent our students from getting caught up in sexual exploitation.
On Monday, October 29 from 6-7 pm in the choir room (during parent/teacher conferences), all parents and community members are invited to a presentation by the Central MN Sexual Assault Center:
The Sexual Exploitation & Trafficking of Youth in Central MN (for parents)
This presentation will address the laws and definitions of sexual exploitation and trafficking, how youth are groomed and recruited, red flags to look for, and strategies for parents on helping reduce your child’s risk.
In late November, 7-12 students will also participate in a similar presentation during the school day. Information about the student presentation will be sent home with Quarter 1 report cards and parents will be able to opt-out their child from attending. Although this is a heavy topic, we want to help our students understand the signs leading up to sexual exploitation and tools for prevention.
Please join us on Oct 29 for the community presentation. Locally made t-shirts promoting anti-trafficking will be for sale.
