Kimball Elementary School (KES) has Ample Technology for Student Use
Each classroom is equipped with a networked computer, document camera, Smartboard and projector. Wireless access is available in the building for students, teachers and guests at different access levels for security reasons.
The building has two Macintosh computer labs. One purchased in 2014 and the other in 2011. The new mac lab features 32 mini macs with HP monitors. The other lab has thirty-two 20 inch iMacs. Also available in KES fifth and sixth grade classrooms are 12 Windows laptops, originally purchased for Project Lead the Way classes. These laptops are used in a variety of ways including writing and editing stories, research for the 6th grade Voyagers project, creating PowerPoint presentations about the Holocaust, completing test prep activities, and more.
KES is home to 52 iPads which are divided between K-6 classrooms. Each classroom has between 3-5 iPads that students are using for a variety of learning activities. The iPads were purchased mostly from non-district funds including large donations from the Kimball Lions, Kimball Boosters, Education Minnesota-Kimball (the local teachers union) and through a Chrysler Drive fundraiser.
New this school year is Mobi360 software and clickers (mobile interactive whiteboard) being used by our 5th grade classrooms. The clickers give students multiple ways to participate in class and to engage during lessons. The students can respond to the questions and get their answers immediately.
