Kimball Area Public Schools

Gary Riess was a teacher and coach at Kimball from 1976 until 2018. Mr. Riess started the softball program and was the head coach for the first 36 years winning 392 games along the way. The softball teams won the conference twice, won the sub sections 5 times and competed in the sub section finals for 9 years. He was on the advisory committee for girl’s sports in region 5 that changed softball playoffs by adding the double elimination starting in 2001. Coach Riess was an assistant softball coach for three season’s and went to state for two of those years with the team. He also coached football as an assistant for 20 seasons. 3 of those teams won the conference and went to state. He coached basketball for 15 years being the head coach for 8 of those years. Mr. Riess taught Social Studies at Kimball until he retired in 2018. Mr. Riess was teacher of the year in 1992, and started the college in the schools program in 1996. Gary lives in St. Cloud.
