Howard came to Kimball in the fall of 1976 as a math teacher and basketball coach . . . Basketball teams won over 60% of their games . . . Central Minnesota Conference Basketball Champions five times in 1983, 1984, 1985, 1991, 1993 . . . District 20 Champions 1984 . . . Region Runner-up 1984 . . . Central Minnesota Conference Coach of the Year 1993 . . . Sub-Section 4 Coach of the Year 1994 . . . Five players who scored over 1000 points in their career . . . Three players were selected First Team All-State, 2 were chosen as members of the McDonald’s All-American team . . . Sixteen players continued their basketball careers in college, 3 at Division I schools, with one continuing on to play basketball professionally . . . Coached in many summer camps . . . Coached at the prestigious Michael Jordan Basketball Camp in Chicago for two summers . . . Selected to address players and coaches on fundamentals of defense . . . Also coached junior high football and was an assistant in baseball.
Began his teaching and coaching career in 1966 in Cleveland Ohio . . . Record of 136 and 67 . . . Competed in the tough East Suburban Conference . . . Six conference titles in 8 years . . . Married to Terri for 34 years . . . Four children: Dr. Jeanni Foss, (Husband Dr. John Foss), Grandchildren: Calvin (4), Simon (2), Kristi Merten, (Husband Steve Merten), Grandchildren: Brooke (11), Luke (8), Rachel (4), Ryan (Wife Jennifer) and Mark . . . Jeanni, Kristi, Ryan, and Mark all are graduates of Kimball Area High School.
