Coach 1952-1958

Howard came to Kimball in the fall of 1952. . . Volunteer coach that fall . . . Taught junior high mathematics . . . Went in front of the school board to plea for the continuation of the football program . . . Started the fall of 1953 with 13 boys to play 8 man football . . . 7 more boys came out once football started . . . Played 5 games that year and won all of them. . . Success breeds more success, pretty soon there was enough manpower and a junior high program started . . . Games were played Friday afternoons because there were no lights . . . The junior high would play in the mornings and eat lunch at the schools they played . . . Kimball played Onamia when each had 19 wins, Kimball won the game 19 to 0 . . . The following year Kimball won 43 to 0 . . . In 1957 the team extended its winning streak to 27 and 0 . . . In 8 games Kimball outscored their opponents 293 to 0 . . . Played an 11-man game vs. Annandale and won 13 to 0 . . . David Kothe was named to the all state 6-8 man football team . . . Three others received honorable mention; Lloyd Kunkel, Norman Nelson and Leslie Arens .

Went to Slayton, MN for the 1958-1957 school year. . . Retired in 1991 after 41 years of teaching and coaching . . . Member of the American Legion, Knights of Clumbus, life member of the Minnesota Coaches Association, life member of the National Education Association, Teacher of the Year in Slayton, MN

Married to Margaret for 47 years . . .7 children, six living 4 boys and 2 girls . . . 14 grandchildren . . . enjoy traveling and visiting grandchildren.
