Activities Director 1971-2001

Leo came to Kimball in the fall of 1964 as a vocational agriculture instructor . . . Became involved in numerous community organizations and activities, including the summer recreation program and the construction of the local golf course.

1971 became Athletic Director and Assistant Principal (until 1982) . . . spearheaded the development of the Central Minnesota Conference . . . worked to establish a leadership workshop for students in the CMC and served as chairman of the workshop for 12 years . . . The CMC Leadership workshop was the first established in the state of Minnesota and is presently the longest running workshop of its kind.

Assistant volleyball coach 5 years . . . junior high volleyball coach 2 years . . . Developed the athletic department from 6 boys activities with 12 teams and 16 coaches to 14 activities (7 boys and 7 girls) with 45 teams and 41 coaches . . . Helped in the development of an excellent fine arts program . . . 1992 - 1994 worked with the development of the Ken Helling Athletic Complex . . . 1998 selected as Section 5A Athletic Director of the Year.

Minnesota State High School League activities include four years as region representative on volleyball and wrestling advisory committee . . . District 20 committee member for 3 years . . . Representative assembly 2 years . . . Served as secretary (4) and chairman (6) for 10 years for sub-section athletic directors.

1983-1985 worked with the reconstruction of the local baseball field damaged by high water (signed 2 loans for money needed for this project.) . . . works as an official for junior high and junior varsity events in volleyball, football, basketball, baseball, and softball . . . Works clock and official book for boys and girls varsity basketball.

Member of the Kimball Chamber of Commerce (President, 4 years), Kimball Sports Booster Club, Kimball United Methodist Church, Kimball Golf Club (Board of Directors for 38 years, present board chairman) . . .Involved in amateur baseball for 40 years (Regional commissioner for 18 years and CVL secretary for 38 years) . . . Member of the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame.

Resides in the Kimball area with wife Marilyn . . . Two daughters, Tamara and Jennifer, graduated from Kimball Area High School as three sport athletes.
