L.E.A.D. 5th Graders

Kimball Area 5th grade students recently completed a 10-week L.E.A.D. program with Officer Brian Theisen. This K-12 program stands for law enforcement against alcohol and drugs. The students learned about setting and reaching goals, building healthy relationships, alcohol, tobacco, drugs and family violence.

Officer Theisen went to Texas in 2022 with two other School Resource Officers for a week-long training on how to teach this L.E.A.D. program. Officer Theisen is part of the first law enforcement agency in the state of Minnesota to get certified as L.E.A.D. instructors.

"I enjoyed teaching Kimball 5th graders as my first class," said Officer Theisen. "My plan is to teach our 6th graders after we return from winter break."

This L.E.A.D. program differs from D.A.R.E. as D.A.R.E. only includes drug and alcohol instruction. L.E.A.D. teachers promote social friendships, healthy choices, dating violence, how to be a good human, plus the dangers of drugs, alcohol and tobacco.
